About Our Council
Dr.
Tillman Briggs Council #4597, in District 2, was founded in 1958 through
the efforts of Dr. Tillman Briggs, MacKenzie Witzel, James Rennis, John
Langan, and with the blessing of Fr. John Tunner. It is named after Dr.
Tillman Briggs, who was the instigator and first President of the Columbus
Club formed in 1957, the precursor of the current Council which became
a reality in April 1958 with the investiture of 51 members. The Dr. Tillman
Briggs Council works closely with Christ the King Parish and the communities
of Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland and the Canadian Forces Base (19 Wing)
in the Comox Valley. It has an outstanding record of accomplishments
over a half century of service providing funds and volunteer labour
for various projects in both the parish and the surrounding communities.
Council 4597 has, throughout the years, been recognized with many awards
for their efforts and contributions.
